Intensive Outpatient (IOP)
The IOP is a comprehensive treatment modality designed to provide optimum level of care for recovery from substance abuse and dependence while allowing compliance with current standards for health care insurance parameters. The IOP allows patients to continue in their vocation while receiving effective treatment.
Admission Criteria
- Acute alcohol and/or drug abuse dependency with a limited potential for severe withdrawal.
- Biomedical complications.
- Cognitive/ emotional /behavioral complications.
- Treatment acceptance or resistance.
- Relapse potential.
- Recovery environment.
- Willingness and cooperation of family members to actively participate in the program.
- Ability to pay for services rendered through either private or insurance pay.
- Commitment to remain drug free as verified by random urinalysis.

- No information will be given to any source without prior written authorization.
- No information will be requested from any source without prior written authorization.
- Group discussions and disclosures are considered confidential. In order to preserve the integrity of the program, patients are instructed not to discuss group process, names of other participants or other personal disclosures with members outside of the program.
Phase One - Intensive Outpatient Program
- Optimum program is four/five days per week.
- Each meeting is scheduled for three hours with 2 ten minute breaks.
- Recovery is accomplished through a combination of group therapy, psycho-education on various topics significant to the chemically dependent patient, family therapy and active working of Steps 1, 2, and 3 in the 12 Step model.
- Topics Include:
- Comprehensive Step Study.
- Relapse prevention and Aftercare.
- Multi-family therapy and Multi-family aftercare.
- Physical effects and biomedical aspects of addiction.
Phase Two - Aftercare Program
- Alumni involvement.
- Aftercare includes relapse prevention and the opportunity to share personal experiences with a recovery based community.
- Multi-family aftercare provides ongoing care, support and education to the patient and their significant others.
Treatment Team
We believe a team approach is the most effective method to deliver quality
care. The treatment team is led by a Board certified MD/Addictionologist and
is made up of Certified Alcohol and Drug counselors. Each patient's needs
are assessed prior to starting treatment in order to assure proper placement
and address all recovery concerns. The treatment team offers not only their
clinical expertise and experience, but also their concern and compassion.

Private and confidential assessments and referral information are provided at no charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Aurora Charter Oak Hospital's Intake Department.
